Ahir Bhairav

Raag Ahir Bhairav is very ancient raag of Hindustan classical music.It is a mixture of Raag Bhairav and the ancient but now rare raag Abhiri or perhaps a mixture of Bhairav and Kafi.This Raag is also known as Uttarang raag(second half more important) .In this raag the Vadi sur is ‘Ma’ and Samwadi sur is ‘Sa’.In some schools of music ‘Sa’ is considered as Vadi.Pa is generally durbal in this raag.It is sometimes avoided in Aaroh.The Avroh is generally direct,but it is often expressed with a slight oscillation on komal Re(Re) to express the character of Bhairav.
